Bamboo rice, also known as “Moongil Arisi” in Tamil, is not rice in the traditional sense of being cultivated from paddy fields. Rather, it’s the seed that results from the flowering of bamboo plants. Bamboo plants flower infrequently, sometimes only once in several decades, making this grain a scarce commodity.
